It Started with a Scheduling Spreadsheet

Emre Uygun is an English Language Teaching academic at Bursa Uludağ University. His research sits at the intersection of educational technology, AI-assisted language learning, and distance education — with published work on MOOCs, learner satisfaction, and digital pedagogy.

But GOXEM didn’t come from a research paper. It came from watching his fiancée, a departmental coordinator, spend countless evenings wrestling with scheduling constraints — room conflicts, instructor preferences, shifting regulations — all managed through fragile spreadsheets and exhausting back-and-forth emails.

“She’d spend weeks on a schedule that would break the moment one instructor changed their availability. I kept thinking — there has to be a system that actually understands how this works.”

That frustration became DERSIS — an automated, constraint-aware scheduling engine built specifically for academic institutions. Not a corporate tool repurposed for education, but something designed from the ground up by someone who had watched the real problem unfold at the kitchen table.

And once the scheduling problem opened the door, a bigger question followed: why is every operational tool in academia disconnected from every other one?

That question became GOXEM.

The Vision

Not Another Tool. An Operating System.

GOXEM connects what academia has always kept separate — community, identity, and daily workflows — into one integrated surface.

01

Community

A structured academic forum — not a social network. Q&A, verified practices, peer reviews, and skill endorsements. Discussions organized by research interest, every post type serving a specific academic function.

02

Identity

Your GOXEM profile carries your ORCID verification, research interests, publications, and peer endorsements. One identity that travels across every module — no separate logins, no context switching.

03

Workflows

Purpose-built modules for the operational backbone of academic life. Scheduling, assessment, resource management — each one connected to the community and identity layers that make them genuinely useful.

The Modules

Tools That Live Inside the Ecosystem

Every module solves a specific operational problem — and connects back to the community and identity layers that tie the system together.

DERSIS — Scheduling Module

Automated timetable generation with constraint-aware solvers, real-time conflict detection, room and instructor management, and explainable placement decisions. Born from a real coordinator’s pain, built for every institution that still solves this problem by hand.

SINAPSIS — Assessment Module (Coming Soon)

Purpose-built examination and assessment management, designed to integrate with your schedules, your academic calendar, and your community. The next module in the ecosystem — bringing the same depth of institutional awareness to assessments.

Our Values

What We Stand For

System Thinking

Every feature is designed as part of a larger system. A community post can reference a schedule. An endorsement feeds into a profile. Nothing exists in isolation — because academic work doesn’t either.

Academic-Native

Not corporate software rebranded for education. Every interface, every workflow, and every data model is built from first principles for how academic institutions actually operate.

Reliability

Institutions plan in semesters and think in years. The GOXEM ecosystem is built for that timescale — stable, consistent, and trustworthy across every module.

Community-Driven

The system evolves through its community. Verified practices surface real knowledge. Peer reviews improve real schedules. The people using GOXEM shape what GOXEM becomes.

The Journey

From a Single Problem to an Academic Ecosystem

The Problem

DERSIS

A scheduling engine born from watching the invisible, exhausting work of departmental coordination — dedicated to L. Gökçe Genç, whose tireless effort inspired a better way.

The Question

Why Stop There?

If scheduling could be reimagined, why not the entire operational backbone of academic life? Community, identity, and workflows — all in one place.

The Answer

GOXEM

An academic operating system where tools, people, and knowledge are connected by design — not bolted together as an afterthought.
